In short
Your files never reach a server. The app transfers files directly between devices — over Wi-Fi Direct, the phone's own private hotspot, or the Wi-Fi network both devices are on. There is no account, no sign-up, and we keep no copy of anything you send or receive.
Data that stays on your device
- Transferred files. They move only between the two devices. Received files are written to Download/ZipBeam on the receiving phone.
- Transfer history. Time, peer device name, file count and size, stored in a local file. You can clear it in Settings.
- Partly received files. Kept so a dropped transfer can resume; deleted automatically after 7 days, or immediately from Settings.
- Your preferences. Auto-accept, sync folders and similar in-app settings.
We cannot read any of the above. None of it is transmitted to us.
Data shared with third parties
| Service | Purpose | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Ads in the free version | Advertising ID, coarse IP-based region, in-app ad interactions |
| Google Play Billing | Verifying the Pro purchase | Purchase token and state |
| Google Play services (code scanner) | Reading QR codes | The camera image is processed on the device only and never leaves it; the app requests no camera permission |
| Google Play In-App Review | Rating prompt | Your rating goes directly to Google |
Buying Pro disables ads and the AdMob SDK stops requesting them. You can change your ad consent choices any time in Settings › Ad privacy options.
Permissions and why they are needed
- Nearby devices (NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES): to discover phones around you, connect, and open a private hotspot. Declared with the "neverForLocation" flag — it is not used to derive your location.
- Location (Android 12 and older only): the system itself requires it for Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot on those versions. The app never reads, stores or shares your location.
- Notifications: transfer progress while you use other apps, plus occasional tips.
- Storage (Android 9 and older only): to write received files into the Downloads folder.
- Foreground service (connected device): keeps a transfer alive while the screen is off or another app is open.
Security
- Phone-to-phone transfers are end-to-end encrypted: ECDH (NIST P-256) key exchange, HKDF-SHA256 key derivation, and AES-256-GCM with every data frame authenticated individually.
- Protection against interception: when you connect by QR code, the receiver's key fingerprint is embedded in the code and verified by the sender. Over Wi-Fi Direct, both screens show the same four-digit security code to compare.
- Browser sharing (phone ⇄ PC or iPhone) runs only on the local network, is protected by an access key that changes every session, and stops as soon as you close it.
- Every incoming transfer requires your explicit approval before any file is written.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights and data deletion
The app creates no account and stores no personal data on our servers, so there is no profile to export or erase on our side. Uninstalling the app removes all of its local data from your device; files you already received stay in your Downloads folder. To request information, contact us at the address below.
