Open PDF: Reader & Editor

Privacy Policy

Effective: 1 August 2026 App ID: com.temasky.openpdf.readereditor Developer: Temasky

The short version. Open PDF has no servers, no accounts and no cloud. Every document you open, scan, edit, encrypt or recognise text in is processed entirely on your own device and never leaves it. We do not collect, store, sell or share your personal data or your files. Nobody at Temasky can see your documents, because there is nowhere for them to be seen.

1. What we collect

Nothing. The app has no registration, no login, no profile, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK. We do not assign you an identifier, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not transmit your documents, scans, file names, folder structure, search queries or OCR results anywhere.

2. Your files stay on your device

All document work happens locally on your phone or tablet, using the device's own processor:

The app's library index — file names, paths, tags, favourites and reading positions — is stored in a private database inside the app's own storage area on your device. It is removed when you uninstall the app.

3. Permissions and why they exist

PermissionWhy the app asks
All files access
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
Open PDF is a document manager: it lists, opens, renames, moves and saves documents anywhere on your storage, including folders other apps created. Files are read only when you open them and written only where you ask. Nothing is scanned in the background and nothing is uploaded.
Camera (optional) Used only while you are actively scanning a document, an ID card or a business card. Camera frames are processed on the device and never sent anywhere. The app does not record video and never opens the camera on its own.
Internet Used for exactly two things: showing ads in the free version, and completing purchases through Google Play. No document data is ever sent over the internet.
Biometric Unlocks the encrypted vault. Your fingerprint or face data is handled by Android's secure hardware — the app never receives or stores it.
Notifications Progress for long operations such as OCR or compression.

Contacts: the "save a business card to contacts" feature does not request contacts permission. The app hands the extracted fields to your own Contacts app through Android's standard insert screen, where you review and confirm them. The app never reads your contact list.

4. Third-party services

The app uses a small number of Google services. Each has its own privacy policy.

ServicePurposeData involved
Google AdMob
(free version only)
Displays the ads that fund the free version. Google may process an advertising identifier and coarse device/technical data in order to serve and measure ads. It receives no document content. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the app shows a Google-certified consent form (UMP) before any personalised ad is requested, and you can change or withdraw that consent at any time from Settings. Buying Pro removes ads and the ad system stops loading altogether.
Google Play Billing Processes the Lifetime and Yearly Pro purchases. Google handles the entire transaction and your payment details. Temasky never sees or stores card or billing information; the app only receives a yes/no purchase state.
Google ML Kit
(on-device)
Text recognition, document scanning and barcode reading. Runs offline on the device. Images and recognised text are not uploaded. The barcode and scanner components may be downloaded once from Google Play services; that download carries none of your data.

5. When you share a document yourself

Printing, sharing, sending to WhatsApp or exporting to another app hands the file to the app or service you choose. From that moment the receiving app's own privacy policy applies. Open PDF neither keeps a copy nor is told what happens next.

6. Security, children and your rights

Password-protected PDFs and the vault use AES-256 encryption performed on the device. A password you set is used at the moment of encryption and is not stored by the app or recoverable by us — choose one you can remember, because a lost password cannot be reset.

The app is a general-purpose document tool, is not directed at children under 13, and collects no personal information from anyone. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on request. You stay in full control: delete documents inside the app, or uninstall it to remove its database, cache and settings. Files you saved elsewhere on your own storage stay where you put them.

7. Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the updated version appears at this address with a new "Last updated" date, and material changes are noted in the app's release notes. For any question about privacy in this app, use the Developer contact details shown on the app's Google Play listing, or the Send feedback option inside the app's Settings screen.
